Increasing amounts of people do the majority of their shopping online. While this may work for purchases of books and CDs, but sometimes there is nothing quite like actually walking into a store. Hobby stores are magical places for young children. They are the places where obsessions are born and collections are made. In fact many children walk into these stores unaware that they are about to encounter the new hobby that will dictate the majority of their childhood.
Hobbies are healthy for young children and this is something that holds particular relevance with today's youth. They are spending an increasing amount of time alone and over stimulated. The Internet, video games and television do not use a child's imagination and do not encourage interaction. Imagination and interaction are essential for healthy development. Hobby stores hold the answer to this problem.
Most hobbies will promote the child to use their brains in healthier ways. Construction, art and competition, these are all healthy activities. Building and racing a remote control car is much more rewarding than playing a racing video game, it will get them active, out of their room and into the fresh air competeing and meeting other children.
Building train sets and slot car racing sets can be a bonding experience between you and your child. It will teach them patience, accuracy as well as some basic mathematics. What better way to learn these essential skills than when they are disguised as fun?
Be sure to ask your local hobby stores about any workshops they may hold. Most do, as it is a way for them to promote their business. Workshops are a great idea for your children especially during the summer months. As a parent it can be very difficult to know what to do with your children during the summer. A workshop will keep them interested, stimulated and interacting, in and out of the store.
